To make your website live, you need to upload your files to the server via FTP. Click here to learn how to connect to FTP and upload files.
If you have logged in to FTP, you may see several different folders in the server directory structure. There are some important points to pay attention to here. We recommend reading the entire text before uploading.
Linux cPanel:
- If your domain is your main website (primary site) and you have Linux cPanel, you will commonly see the folder named public_html. You can upload your website files to the public_html folder.
- If there are subdomains created under your main website and you have Linux cPanel, the folder name will be the same as the subdomain. So instead of public_html, you will see the name of the subdomain folder. This folder is usually located in the main root directory. You can upload your website files to this folder.
- If there are additional addon sites under your main website and you have Linux cPanel, the folder name will be the same as the site name. So instead of public_html, you will see the folder named after the addon site. This folder is usually located in the main root directory. You can upload your website files to this folder.
Windows Plesk Panel:
- If your domain is your main website (primary site) and you have Windows Plesk, you will commonly see the folder named httpdocs. You can upload your website files to the httpdocs folder.
- If there are subdomains created under your main website and you have Windows Plesk, the folder name will be the same as the subdomain. You will see the name of the subdomain folder. This folder is usually located in the main root directory. You can upload your website files to this folder.
- If there are additional addon sites under your main website and you have Windows Plesk, the folder name will be the same as the site name. So instead of httpdocs, you will see the folder named after the addon site. This folder is usually located in the main root directory. You can upload your website files to this folder.
